Australian merged operator Vodafone Hutchison (VHA) has contracted Nokia Siemens Networks to integrate the networks of the two parent companies.
NSN has bagged the seven-year outsourcing agreement, said to be worth ‘several hundred million dollars’ and will be charged with the role of improving the network performance of the operator, which was formed when Vodafone and Hutchison agreed to a joint venture agreement in 2009.
Having seen off competition from other vendors including Huawei and Ericsson, NSN’s role will include management of VHA’s core, transmission, radio networks and equipment supply.
NSN will expand its mobile softswitch (MSS) and home location register (HLR), enabling VHA to evolve towards a single database for all its subscriber information.
The operator’s chief executive Nigel Dews said in a statement: “This is a significant step towards delivering an improved network experience for our customers and realising important cost efficiencies following the merger.”
