Raouf Chekir has been appointed new CEO of Tunisie Telecom by the minister of industry and technology, according to local reports.
He replaces Montassar Ouali who has stepped down from his position following demonstrations organised by employees calling for his resignation.
Chekir has reportedly been appointed for a six-month period during which the government hopes to stabilise the country.
Prior to his nomination, Chekir represented the Tunisian state in the operator’s board. He has also been in the past an adviser to the minister of technologies and communication.
Neither the authorities nor the operator was immediately available for comments.
