US broadcast solutions firm NEP has bought Irish satellite uplink and live event specialist The Screen Scene Group from its directors for an undisclosed sum.
The deal includes all four of the company’s businesses, comprising uplink provider Digital Space, two outside broadcast firms Observe and OBStv, and a post-production and visual effects group called Screen Share.
Private equity-backed NEP said its acquisition of the group, which has 90 full time staff, means it now has more than 85 HD outside broadcast units, several HD flypacks, satellite uplink trucks, smaller camera systems and other audio visual packages, as well as facilities in Dublin and elsewhere.
NEP CEO Kevin Rabbitt said: “Not only do we have great confidence in The Screen Scene Group and its directors Alan Burns, Jim Duggan, Jake Walshe, Hubert Montag and Mura O Byrne, we also have confidence in what we see as the tremendous growth potential in Ireland and Europe.”
The Screen Scene Group’s businesses will continue to operate as separate entities under their existing leadership team, reporting to Steve Jenkins, president of NEP UK and Ireland.
NEP is majority-owned by Crestview Partners with a significant ownership stake held by NEP’s management team.
The company has been on a spending spree since Crestview bought it from another private equity firm called American Securities in December 2012.
Its latest deal comes soon after it snapped up Dutch video display specialist Faber Audiovisuals and Australian video solutions provider Silk Studios in December 2014.
