MTS Uzbekistan, a subsidiary of Russian mobile operator MTS, has received regulatory approval to use radio frequencies in the 700MHz band for its LTE network expansion.
This is according to Russian business news agency Prime-Tass citing a spokesperson for Uzdunrobita, the Uzbek unit.
MTS commercially launched a LTE network in Tashkent, the Uzbek capital, in July 2010 using frequencies in the 2.5GHz-2.7GHz band. The company plans to expand across the country in the future and is reportedly in the process of testing the LTE technology in Ukraine.
Uzdunrobita’s network is the first operating LTE network in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), according to Prime-Tass.
