Diederik Karsten has been promoted to managing director of the European broadband operations at cable operator Liberty Global.
He will take up this newly created position on January 1, 2011, from which time he will oversee the day-to-day operations of the company’s cable businesses in 10 European countries.
Karsten will succeed Gene Musselman, who has decided to retire from his position of president and COO of UPC Broadband.
Musselman will stay in the group as CEO of Germany’s Unitymedia, while also being a special adviser to the CEO of Liberty Global on strategic and operating initiatives.
Karsten had been managing director of UPC Netherlands since 2004. He is expected to be replaced by Robert Dunn, who has been managing director of UPC Ireland since 2006.
