Johan Dennelind, who was expected to head Malaysian telco Maxis as of 1 July 2013, will not join the company.
In a statement, Maxis said that “owing to recent personal family circumstances, which have made it necessary for him to reside closer to family in Sweden, Johan has indicated he is unable to assume the role of CEO.”
In late March, it was announced that former CEO, Sandip Das, would leave on 15 April, earlier than the previously announced date of 30 June.
In the interim, a committee comprising CFO Nasution Mohammed and joint COOs Suren Amarasekera and Mark Dioguardi ran the company, reporting to chairman Arshad bin Raja Tun Uda.
Maxis said in the statement yesterday (29 May) that Dioguardi will resign from his position as joint COO on 31 May.
Mohammed, who still serves as CFO, has been named as joint COO and will continue to lead the operator together with Amarasekera until a new CEO is appointed.
Dennelind is the current CEO of Vodacom International, part of South Africa’s Vodacom. He had previously served as CFO and deputy CEO of Telenor Sweden, as well as CEO of Malaysia’s Digi Telecommunications.
