Liberty Global has made Graeme Oxby its managing director of its European mobile operations.
The pan-European cable group plucked Oxby from its recently-acquired subsidiary Virgin Media, where he was executive director of its mobile and landline telephone division.
Liberty said Oxby would develop the group’s mobile operations so that it had full MVNOs in the majority of the markets it operates in. The cableco wants to emulate the success of its MVNOs in the UK and Belgium, through Virgin Media and Telenet respectively.
Prior to his last role Oxby was MD of Virgin Mobile. He has worked for Three, Cable & Wireless, and Orange in the past.
Liberty has cable operations in 14 countries, predominantly in Europe, where it owns operators such as UPC, Unitymedia and Kabel BW.
Liberty closed the US$23.3bn acquisition of Virgin Media in June, roughly four months after striking the deal.
Earlier this week Liberty sold the majority of its media content businesses Chellomedia to US broadcaster AMC Networks for €750 million (US$1bn), making it even more of a pure-play cableco.
