Dutch telecoms incumbent KPN has been slapped with a E780,000 fine for breaching competition rules in the corporate market.
KPN was found guilty of having forced its participation in tender offers and obliged customers to select KPN in cases of equal offers with competitors between 2007 and April 2009. The operator is also accused of having been informed when competitors lowered their offers so that it could match them.
Earlier this month, KPN was fined E500,000 for applying inappropriate discounts to some of its wholesale customers. The telecoms regulator OPTA reportedly said that some of KPN’s wholesale clients benefitted from additional discounts for international calls between 2006 and the beginning of 2008. KPN offered these favourable rates in order to win back the customers that had moved to competitors.
KPN is expected to appeal both fines.
