KPN, the Dutch telco, is weighing its options in France and could dispose its MVNO operations in the country, according to a KPN executive quoted by Bloomberg.
Thorsten Dirks, head of international mobile-phone operations at KPN, is quoted saying that the company will come to a decision whether or not to keep the French operations within the next six months.
The comments were made at a press event in the German city of Dusseldorf on 30 November already, Bloomberg writes.
KPN is facing the option to either strengthen the French operations or sell them, Dirks said.
He described the French market, which currently has three competitors but a fourth player is expected to launch next year, as “difficult”.
KPN operates an MVNO under the Simyo brand in France, using Bougues Telecom’s network.
In mid November Spanish paper El Economista reported that Vodafone is in talks to acquire KPN Espana, the Spanish MVNO of the Dutch incumbent.
