Kosovo has started disabling the mobile towers of Telekom Srbjia, Reuters reports.
The Serbian incumbent still operated base stations over the Kosovan territory, providing services to about 200,000 customers as Serbia never recognised Kosovo’s self-declared independence on February 17, 2008.
However, Kosovo is now considering privatising its incumbent PTK and wanted to remove unlicensed towers.
Serbia’s President Boris Tadic reportedly qualified the move as violations of human rights adding that the Serbian population was in jeorpady, having no communications.
Kosovo’s state-owned incumbent is expected to give free sim cards to customers who have lost their connections.
