The Jordanian authorities have put Fadi Kawar, a Jordanian national with experience of working for a regional Arab operator, in charge of the country’s telecoms regulator.
Kawar replaces Ahmad Hiasat as chairman and chief executive officer of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission in Amman.
Between 2002 and 2005, Kawar worked for Etihad Etisalat, the Saudi subsidiary of the UAE’s Etisalat. Before his time at Etihad Etisalat, Kawar held the post of commissioner at the regulator.
Jordan’s first whole-market review of telecoms will dominate Kawar’s in-tray for his first few months in charge. The regulator plans to publish the review, which covers fixed-line, internet and mobile phone services, in the summer.
