Telecom 365 has been awarded Israel’s first MVNO licence by the country’s Communications Ministry.
The move will increase competition in Israel’s mobile market, which is currently home to Cellcom, Partner Communications, Pelephone and Mirs, and has penetration of around 125%.
Telecom 365, a subsidiary of department store owner Hamashbir, now has six months to agree a deal to use the network of one of the existing operators or the Communications Ministry will step in and fix a price for which the infrastructure can be leased.
The Ministry said in a statement that a further six applications to becomes MVNOs were being considered.
