According to a report in al-Sabah newspaper the Ministry of Communications is liaising with local mobile operators with experience in the sector, after the government approved initial plans for the licence.
In July 2009 the MoC announced plans to set up a fourth mobile operator that would be part private and part public.
Zain, Asiacell and Korek Telecom are the current mobile operators in Iraq.
