Intelsat has secured a seven satellite package placement, one of the largest single insurance placements ever made. Aon acted as the company’s broker.
The satellite operator is understood to have added an additional satellite to its initial six satellite package plan. The total coverage is believed to be over US$2bn.
The satellites included in the policy are Intelsat-29e, -30, -31, -32e, -33e, -34, with the seventh satellite thought to be Intelsat-36.
The satellites are due to be launched between H2 2014 and 2017 with six being launched by Arianespace and one by International Launch Services.
Intelsat-29e and -33e are the company’s first Epic satellites and are due to be launched in H2 2015 and H1 2016, respectively. The satellites are being constructed by Boeing Defense, Space and Security and are based on its 702MP (medium power) platform, carrying a high throughput C- and Ku-band payload.
They are believed to have been insured for around US$450m each.
It is the third significant package placement that Intelsat has undertaken.
