Malaysian telecoms vendor Green Packet has promoted its CFO Kay Yen Tan to the position of CEO.
Tan replaces founder Puan Chan Cheong, who has resigned from the CEO role, the company announced in a bourse filing. Cheong will remain with the company as a non-independent and non-executive director.
Tan became CFO of Green Packet, which provides carrier-grade mobile data offloading solutions and 4G devices, in April 2015 after serving as its chief operating officer (COO).
The company said he has been overseeing the day-to-day operations for its key business divisions as well as performing corporate development, strategic planning and finance functions.
Tan first joined the company in 2005 as director of corporate development and became COO the following year.
In September, Green Packet completed its MR350m (US$106.3m) sale of shares in WiMax operator Packet One (P1) to Telekom Malaysia which allowed the incumbent telco to take control of the company. Green Packet, the former controlling shareholder, retains a 30% stake in P1.
Green Packet claims to serve more than 70 operators in 40 countries and describes itself as the world’s third-largest vendor of WiMax devices.
