Squire Patton Boggs has added Georg Serentschy, former CEO of Austrian telecoms regulator RTR, and ex-ETNO director general Michael Bartholomew to its public policy practice in Brussels, where both will practice TMT regulation.
They will work closely with Ann LaFrance, coordinating partner of the firm’s EMEA communications law practice.
Serentschy spent 11 years as CEO of RTR and since stepping down in 2014 has worked as a senior director with Arthur D Little and adviser to spectrum consultancy Specure. He was also chair of Berec in 2012.
Serentschy said he was glad to build on his TMT experience, which he said was “particularly relevant given many of the proposals put forward in Europe including the Digital Single Market, Telecoms Single Market and General Data Protection Regulation”.
Bartholomew headed European lobby group ETNO from 2000 until 2011. Prior to that, he was director of European affairs for the Motion Picture Association, which represents the interests of Hollywood studios. Since leaving ETNO, Bartholomew has provided counsel on internet, media and telecoms legislation to internet and technology firms.
“As EU institutions continue to strengthen and flex their regulatory muscles, clients are looking to firms for full-service legislative, legal, regulatory and public policy expertise,” Bartholomew said.
“As such, [the firm’s] European public policy practice will be increasingly important. I look forward to contributing to its further growth and success.”
