France Telecom may spend up to E7bn on African and Middle Eastern transactions in the next five years, CEO Stephane Richard was quoted saying in Bloomberg.
The operator is seeking to double revenues from emerging markets, which currently stand at about E3.3bn, representing around 7% of the group’s total revenues of E46bn.
Richard reportedly added that it would be good to be able to buy a portfolio of assets but the operator could also buy licences country by country if necessary.
France Telecom is already present in West Africa, including Cameroon, Niger and Senegal and would be interested in all countries in the region where it is not yet present with a view to having a regional cluster.
