France Telecom has won a contract to manage Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation (ETC) for up to three years, according to Addis Fortune.
Under the deal, which was reportedly signed on March 24, France Telecom will receive an annual management fee, and possibly a cut on revenues raised from enhanced services.
The authorities are reportedly investing US$2bn to expand infrastructure across the country targeting an increase from 1.1 million to 4 million of fixed-line subscribers and from 1.2 million to 8.5 million of mobile subscribers.
The agreement still needs to be approved by the Council of Ministers to become effective.
South African and Indian firms also lined up for the contract.
