All four applicants for Hungary’s upcoming 4G auction have qualified to participate, the national regulator has announced.
Deutsche Telekom-controlled Magyar Telekom, the local units of Vodafone and Telenor, and Digi Communications have been registered to participate, the National Media and Communications Authority (NMIAH) said in a statement.
The regulator now intends to begin a thorough evaluation of their applications.
Hungary aims to raise at least Ft104bn (US$467.92m) from the tender, designed to stimulate competition and boost the rollout of broadband networks. Licences for the spectrum – in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1,800 MHz, 2,600 MHz and 26 GHz bands – will be valid until 2034.
Magyar Telekom, Vodafone and Telenor are all mobile network operators in Hungary, while Digi is a potential new entrant.
A unit of RCS&RDS, Romania’s largest cable and satellite TV provider and a big telecoms player in Southeast Europe, Digi provides cable-based triple play, satellite TV and wireless internet services.
