The Czech Telecommunication Office (CTU) has received four bids to participate in its planned 4G spectrum auction – three from established mobile operators and one from a possible new market entrant.
Telefonica Czech Republic, Deutsche Telekom-owned T-Mobile Czech Republic, Vodafone Czech Republic and locally-based finance group PPF’s mobile services unit have all applied to take part in the auction of 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz frequencies set to take place before the end of the year.
PPF, which claims to be one of the largest investment and finance groups in Central and Eastern Europe with about €12bn of assets under management, would be the new entrant.
Announcing the news today, the CTU said it expects to name those allowed to participate on 17 October.
The regulator said the government expects to raise “billions” of Czech koruna from the auction and additional funds from future annual fees.
