Elisa will invest the proceeds into improving its 4G LTE networks in Finland and Estonia, particularly in underserved rural areas.
The loan, terms of which were not disclosed, will fund almost half of the €306m (US$345m) project.
Elisa describes itself as Finland’s largest “operator-investor,” spending €200m (US$225m) on infrastructure investments annually.
“Mobile data usage volumes in Finland are already the highest in the world,” Elisa CEO Veli-Matti Mattila said.
“With the investment funding obtained from the European Investment Bank, we will have good opportunities to increase network speeds and capacity, which are needed for the introduction of new services and applications.”
