Ericsson has promoted Rima Qureshi from senior vice president to chief strategy officer where she will direct the Swedish vendor’s mergers and acquisitions activity.
She fills the void left by Douglas Gilstrap, who resigned from his role as head of group function strategy earlier this month where he was responsible for M&A.
Qureshi has previously led the integration of the CDMA and LTE assets of the former Nortel Networks Corporation which Ericsson bought in 2009, and she subsequently ran Ericsson’s CDMA mobile systems unit for two years.
Hans Vestberg, Ericsson president and CEO, said that Qureshi’s “comprehensive experience in driving both business and M&A’s, along with a solid track record in strategy development and execution” makes her ideal for the role.
She will also take over as chairman of business unit modems – a position being vacated by Gilstrap.
A 21-year company veteran, Qureshi has previously worked across R&D, sales and services in Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the US.
