Eight telcos have expressed an interest in bidding for an award of spectrum in the 1,900MHz band, according to media reports.
The Colombian newspaper Portfolio reported on 28 January that Avantel, Comcel, Directv, Dominio Colombio, ETB, Logistica Portal y Carga Andina, Movistar and Tigo are interested in taking part in a future auction for the spectrum.
The report predicted that the Colombian government will be making 30MHz available.
It added that the government wants to make awards in the 1,700MHz, 2,100MHz and 2,500MHz bands. This is reportedly in order to enable more companies to offer 4G services in the country.
The Colombian Ministry for Information Technology and Communications was unavailable for comment.
