India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has reportedly said it would cancel only eight licences after some operators failed to meet their rollout obligations a few years ago.
The Times of India explained that Dishnet has been issued a show-cause notice for the potential cancellation of three of its licences, Etisalat and Aircel for two of their licences, and Sistema Shyam for one licence.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (Trai’s) had previously suggested that 69 licences should be cancelled, the local newspaper wrote. The DoT and Trai reportedly disagree on the definition of rollout obligations.
