Digicel, the mobile network provider owned by Irish telecoms entrepreneur Denis O’Brien, expects to launch services in Tahiti in the coming months as part of wide ranging expansion plans.
According to a Digicel spokesperson, other markets of interest include Timor Leste, New Caledonia, Costa Rica and Belize.
The privately-owned company is looking to expand its footprint from 32 to 40 markets in the next three years, reported the Financial Times yesterday.
In an interview with the newspaper, O’Brien said it was able to be the first on the ground in many countries by exploiting the caution of a lot of PLCs.
