The Swedish government has said will reduce its stakes in both Swedish operator TeliaSonera and Swedish financial services group Nordea Bank if it is re-elected, according to Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri. Sweden’s Finance Minister Anders Borg said the government could raise as much as 100bn kroner (US$14bn) from selling assets.
The next general election to the Swedish Parliament will be held on 19 September and as part of its manifesto, the government said it would consider increasing competition in the market while raising finance for other projects.
When contacted, TeliaSonera, Nordea and the Finance Ministry were not immediately available for comment.
