Gustav Smit, the CEO of Dark Fibre Africa (DFA), will leave the company he co-founded some nine years ago at the end of June.
“Gustav has decided that the foundation that was built is extremely strong now and that the time has come to retire from DFA,” the South Africa-based company said in a statement. “Gustav will leave a legacy of leadership and a strong company that is a significant participant in the telecoms industry.”
Smit will be replaced by Thinus Mulder, currently the CFO, on 1 July 2016. DFA credited Mulder with having “played a major role in the development of the company” over the past eight years.
DFA says it employs over 400 people and has built an open access fibre network of more than 9,000km across South Africa. Its customers include telecoms operators, ISPs, media companies and government organisations.
