T-Mobile and Orange today received a huge boost in their attempts to merge their UK assets, as the European Commission approved the deal.
On the condition that an existing network sharing deal between T-Mobile and Hutchison’s 3UK is amended and a quarter of the combined entity’s 1800MHz spectrum is sold, the deal will be allowed to go ahead.
Last month, T-Mobile and Orange offered to release some radio spectrum in an attempt to ensure that competition in the market would not be affected and to speed up the regulatory process.
The UK Office of Fair Trading has now withdrawn its request to refer the case for the Competition Authorities to review.
