US cableco Comcast and the broadcaster Time Warner signed a landmark deal yesterday to supply TV programmes online.
The deal means that Comcast digital cable customers will be able to watch TV shows from Turner Broadcasting System networks (a Time Warner company) soon after they have been first aired and at no extra cost on XfinityTV.com, Comcast’s on-demand video service.
The TV programmes will also be available to Comcast customers on Turner’s websites, as well as the iPad and iPhone.
A statement from Time Warner described the contract as a “Long-Term TV Everywhere agreement”. TV Everywhere is the shared strategy between the companies to provide TV content to customers across different platforms.
Comcast’s CEO and chairman, Brian Roberts, said: “This multi-year agreement with Time Warner is a significant next step in our vision to deliver more content to our customers on any device, at anytime and anywhere.”
