Canadian cableco Cogeco Cable has acquired fibre-network provider MTO Telecom for an undisclosed amount.
MTO’s fibre footprint, which totals 1,500km of fibre, is mainly centred on the Montreal region. It serves carrier, business and public sector customers.
MTO will now be integrated within Cogeco Data Services, Cogeco’s business communications subsidiary.
The president of Cogeco Data Services, Tony Ciciretto, said: “The combination of Cogeco Data Services and MTO Telecom brings together network infrastructure that enables Cogeco Data Services to expand its reach particularly in Montreal, adding to its already extensive network spanning Ontario and Quebec.”
This acquisition comes after Cogeco Cable completed its purchase of Quiettouch, the Canadian provider of outsourced managed IT and infrastructure services.
Quiettouch was also integrated in Cogeco Data Services.
Cogeco Cable claims to be the second biggest cable operator in Ontario, Quebec and Portugal, where it also has operations, having acquired the local cableco Cabovisao in 2006.
