Mexican telecoms regulator Cofetel is seeking a consensus on connection rules, hoping carriers will agree on interconnection rules, which would increase competition on the country’s telecoms market.
A year ago, the government cleared an interconnection plan which allows the regulator to develop terms and regulations which the operators and carriers must adhere to, regarding interconnection in the networks. The regulator is now working on the exact criteria, which should forge a consensus between the larger and the smaller operators, hopefully in H1 2010. The upcoming Mexican spectrum auction is also part of these plans.
