Ecuadorian telco Corporacion Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CNT) is allegedly planning a US$40m investment in its mobile subsidiary over the coming year.
CNT is the country’s state run fixed line operator, and according to local reports it is now planning on investing in its mobile unit Telecsa (also known as Alegro PCS), ahead of plans to merge the two businesses.
The combination of the two has already been confirmed by the country’s president Rafael Correa, and it is due to take place during Q2.
The deal will see Telecsa become part of CNT, which is also planning to invest US$100m in the merged operator over the coming three years.
