Jersey-based broadband group Clear Mobitel has announced it has been awarded a licence to trial 4G LTE technology in the self-governing island.
The company intends to test and develop radio infrastructure in the 2600 MHz band by late autumn.
According to Chuck Webb, executive director of the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (JCRA), the company’s planned entry into 4G will bring additional competition and consumer choice in the provision of broadband services in Jersey.
Harpal Mann, CEO and founder of Clear Mobitel, welcomed the move, but added that “launching Clear Mobitel’s business operations … in the Channel Islands has been very challenging and indeed highly frustrating”.
