Canadian operator Public Mobile has signed up Chinese equipment vendor ZTE Corporation to build a new commercial CDMA network.
The aim of the network is to provide mobile access to 19 million potential customers across the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, Canada’s most populous. ZTE has been engaged to design, build and operate the end-to-end CDMA network including wireless, core network, service platforms and IP architecture, as well as supplying Public Mobile with handsets.
ZTE whose other recent North American CDMA wins include deals with MetroPCS, Aircell and Smart PCS will install over 1,000 base stations for the network, as well as the industry’s first 5+5MHz-based customized solution for personalised communications systems to provide extended G block frequency band on CDMA system equipment and terminals.
Public Mobile CEO Alek Krstajic stated that ZTE offers a wide range of high quality products, competitive network construction, maintenance costs, and competitive financing. Its extensive real-world experience and ability to smoothly evolve networks to LTE was very compelling for Public Mobiles future growth.
“The customized CDMA solution that ZTE is providing to Public Mobile is designed to meet the company’s unique network demand in Ontario and Quebec,” added Li Jian, General Manager for ZTE’s CDMA products unit
