CETel (Central European Telecom Services), the German teleport and satellite service provider, has completed its acquisition of maritime satcoms specialist SeaMobile Europe.
Financial details were not disclosed.
Based in Paris, SeaMobile Europe was formerly owned by SeaMobile Europe Enterprises which is itself a subsidiary of SeaMobile Inc. The latter operates under MTN Satellite Communications. SeaMobile Europe Enterprises’ other business is Thalos, a France-based provider of high-value oceanographic and marine meteorology satellite information service to the European tuna fishing market.
SeaMobile Europe will now be renamed Geolink Satellite Services (GSS) and operate as an independent entity of CETel.
GSS specializes in maritime communications solutions via mobile satellite services as well as VSAT services on the Africa continent. Within this region, GSS is a key supplier of satellitebased communications services for NGOs, government institutions, oil and gas, mining companies, media, fishing and offshore racing. GSS’ main competitors in the African VSAT market are the likes of Bentley-Walker and Afsat.
CETel stated that the acquisition would enable it to expand its service portfolio and customer base in Africa and the Middle East with a focus on the mobile and maritime business.
Trinity Advisers acted as exclusive financial advisor to SeaMobile Inc, while CETel is believed to have mainly used inhouse advisers.
