State-owned broadcasters TV2 and Dansk Radio have started approaching buyers for their tower network, Broadcast Service Denmark (BSD), TV2 told TelecomFinance.
Bankers have suggested that the sale is likely to attract private equity firms and industry players such as Tele Diffusion de France, Telenor and Sweden’s Terracom and EQT.
One banker suggested the network, which has some 700 towers, could be worth around E300m-E400m. This is higher than estimates tipped in local media reports, which ranged around DKr500m and DK1bn (E67m- E134m).
The state has mandated Handelsbanken to advise the sale.
BSD owns and operates masts and transmission networks of companies including TV2, Dansk Radio and Boxer. The sale will be a first in Scandinavia and is as such closely watched by the industry, keen to see the interest and valuation it will attract.
If successful, the sale could encourage other Nordic telecom companies to follow suit, one banker said.
BSD’s network reaches 5.5million users and is attractive for its ability to carry mobile broadband, mobile TV and digital TV signals.
