Unions representing staff at BT have rejected the UK telco’s 2% pay rise offer, threatening strike action if this is not raised by June 4. Delegates at the Communications Workers Union’s annual conference backed the union, and could soon vote for a walk-off.
A spokesperson for BT told the BBC: “We have made the CWU a very fair offer that is more generous than those accepted by the union elsewhere. Their members enjoy significantly better pay and conditions at BT than in many other comparable organisations and our offer will ensure this remains the case.”
Separately, Ian Livingston was last year paid a £1.2m bonus after reaching 142 out of 200 targets. Livingston has agreed to cap his own salary, which last year was £860,000, at a 2% increase, donating the rest to charity.
