UK incumbent BT has signed a wholesale agreement with broadcaster Sky, allowing it to offer its BT Vision customers Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2. BT Vision, the company’s IPTV service, began its partnership with Sky shortly after its launch in late 2006 when the two jointly acquired FA Premiere League rights.
In a statement today, BT said that BT Vision customers would be able to sign up for the subscription channels from early July and start viewing them on August 1, in time for the Premier League football season commencing on August 14.
BT said it would announce its pricing model shortly.
BT Retail CEO Gavin Patterson said: “We are delighted to have reached this milestone, which means that we can be certain of offering Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 to our customers before the football season kicks off. We know our customers will be keen to sign up for the two channels.”
BT Vision is part of the BT Retail business line. BT reported revenue of £20.9bn in the year ended 31 March 2010.
