UK incumbent BT has announced a network telepresence exchange with US telco AT&T, improving the connectivity between enterprise customers of both businesses.
The new inter-provider telepresence capability promises BT and AT&T customers a consistent service across both networks to schedule and conduct meetings.
The exchange will initially be based on equipment provided by US-based IT networking firm Cisco Systems, but could eventually use BT’s own systems, a spokesman for the UK telco said.
Brian Washburn, research analyst of Current Analysis, said: “AT&T and BT’s exchange-to-exchange connection marks a significant milestone in the industry.
“Exchange-to-exchange telepresence is a major stride forward in building smooth, end-to-end telepresence experiences for customers across network boundaries worldwide, and advancing Cisco’s efforts to support inter-provider connectivity for telepresence.”
According to BT Enterprise MD Chris Clark, the partnership is testament to his group’s commitment to a unified communications and telepresence.
