US aerospace contractor Braxton Science & Technology Group has acquired government-focused engineering firm Space/Ground System Solutions for an undisclosed sum.
The deal, its third acquisition in less than three years, combines BSTG’s commercially developed solutions and cyber security business with SGSS’s expertise in government-owned software for space applications.
SGSS has around 70 employees and provides space-related services to the US government’s Naval Research Laboratory, supporting spacecraft design through to pre-launch. Its command and control software is used on more than 20 on-orbit satellites.
BTSG, which provides commercial off-the-shelf and open source products, is owned by Colorado-based investment firm O’Neil Group Company (OGC).
The group bought a majority stake in BTSG from its founders in 2008, and bolstered the asset by acquiring engineering firms NDP Group in 2013 and Gnostech in 2014.
OGC’s wider portfolio comprises companies ranging from the defence industry and medical services to property management and lighting.
Kevin O’Neil (pictured), OGC’s president, said its latest deal expands Braxton’s presence in the US with offices in Melbourne and the DC area, while complementing its existing command and control offerings.
Bob Tormala, SGSS’s president, said: “We chose to become part of the BTSG team because they have a similar outlook, customer base, and focus along with a talented and capable engineering staff.”
They plan to close the sale in Q1 2016, subject to regulatory and BTSG board approval.
