A government committee has recommended that BSNL offload a 30% stake.
The proposal stipulates that the firm should sell the stake in stages and that 20% of the proceeds should go to the employee voluntary retirement programme and for network expansion, with the remaining 10% going to the state.
Federal junior telecommunications minister Gurudas Kamat also recommended that BSNL retire or transfer about 100,000 employees through various schemes and introduce a performance-driven culture in the company.
