The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has recommended that a stake sale in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) be postponed.
The DoT said: “In accordance with the recommendations of the Pitroda committee, it is proposed to wait for the fundamental changes to be implemented in an effective manner, leading to building of the company’s image and enhancement of enterprise value before implementation of (the) disinvestment proposal.”
Meanwhile, nearly 300,000 BSNL staff will begin an indefinite strike to protest the recommendations of the Pitroda committee report.
BSNL chairman and managing director Kuldeep Goyal said the company was working on a contingency plan to minimise the impact of the strikes.
