India’s largest towerco Indus Towers has promoted COO Bimal Dayal to the role of CEO designate with immediate effect. He replaces B.S Shantharaju, who is retiring after six years at the helm.
India’s largest towerco Indus Towers has promoted COO Bimal Dayal to the role of CEO designate with immediate effect.
Dayal (pictured) succeeds B.S Shantharaju who is retiring on 31 March 2016 after six years in the role. For the next six months, he will help Dayal with the transition process.
Bimal has been COO at Indus since February 2010 and has more than 28 years’ industry experience, the New Delhi-based towerco said in a statement. Before joining Indus, he was country manager and vice president for business development at Qualcomm India & South Asia.
He has also worked for Ericsson in Sweden and Sri Lanka and India’s Tata Telecom. As managing director of Ericsson Sri Lanka, he helped the company to become the country’s number one player in telecoms infrastructure, Indus said.
Dayal has a double Bachelor’s degree in engineering in law and is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School, where he completed the Advance Management Program.
Indus was founded in 2007 as a joint venture between telco Bharti Airtel’s tower unit Bharti Infratel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular. It describes itself as the largest telecom tower company in the world with more than 117,579 towers.
