Muhammad Chatib Basri has rejoined the board of Malaysian telecoms giant Axiata as an independent non-executive director.
Basri left the role in June 2012 to become chairman of Indonesia’s Investment Coordination Board trade board. He became the country’s Minister of Finance less than a year later.
Axiata has controlling stakes in mobile operators in Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Cambodia – with significant strategic interests in India and Singapore – and said the appointment will help diversify the board’s international representation.
Tan Sri Dato’ Azman Hj. Mokhtar, Axiata’s chairman, said: “We are very happy to welcome back Pak Chatib, who brings his wealth of experience and knowledge of Indonesia, one of our biggest markets in the region. In addition, he brings invaluable expertise in international trade and macroeconomics which extends beyond Asia.”
