A Bangladeshi parliamentary committee has recommended that satellite broadcasting be permitted in the country to compete with cable operators via DTH services.
The committee said that introducing satellite broadcasting would give the government more control over revenue from the pay-TV sector.
If it is introduced, current cable operators will be permitted to launch DTH services.
In addition, Indian DTH heavyweights may be interested in expanding into Bangladesh.
The country has over 1 million cable-enabked homes and the market is believed to be worth over US$50m.
