The British operator Avanti has signed a £113.4m option for a capacity deal on its HYLAS 2 satellite with an unnamed government customer.
The customer has first right of refusal for the next three years. If they excise the option, the deal is worth £113.4m over a three year timeframe. Avanti will also receive an option fee of £280,000.
The company stated that the price per MHz for this contract is “significantly higher” than previous sales.
This indicates that Avanti is seeking a more aggressive pricing scheme for HYLAS 2, which covers Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Avanti CEO David Williams said: “This is our third sale of capacity on HYLAS 2, just three months after we financed and two years before it is launched in 2012. This contract provides further clear demonstration of the exceptional demand for our very scarce resource – at good prices – and our ability to execute our sales strategy.”
