America Movil and Digicel have completed two parts of their asset-swap, with the Mexican telecoms group acquiring Digicel’s Honduran business and Digicel acquiring America Movil’s Jamaican unit.
The completion of the asset swap was announced in an America Movil statement. No financial details were disclosed, and there was no update on the proposed acquisition of Digicel’s assets in El Salvador, where the transaction faces regulatory hurdles.
Digicel said in a separate statement that an update on the El Salvador deal will be “provided in due course”.
In October, the competition authority of El Salvador dismissed their appeal against a ruling that could lead to America Movil’s El Salvador subsidiaries having to give up spectrum.
Businessweek reported that America Movil had said that they are discussing alternatives for the El Salvador business, after they failed to get a “satisfactory” regulatory approval for the transaction there.
Digicel Honduras is a mobile operator.
America Movil operated in Jamaica through the mobile operator Claro.
