The Indian Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) questioned the chairman of the ADAG conglomerate, Anil Ambani, and the former telecoms minister A Raja yesterday as a part of their investigation into the 2G scam, according to media reports.
The Economic Times reported today that the CBI had questioned Ambani and Raja over the issuance of a dual technology licence to Reliance Communications and its alleged relationship with Swan Telecom.
Citing a source privy to the investigation, the newspaper reported that the two had been questioned on Swan Telecom’s equity issues and the company’s relationship with Reliance Communications, but had been uncooperative.
Reliance Communications is part of Ambani’s ADAG conglomerate. According to the newspaper, Reliance also has a 9.87% equity stake in Swan Telecom.
The newspaper also reported today that Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh had tried to distance himself from the 2G scam.
Singh reportedly said that the 2G issue had never been brought to him or the cabinet, and that the 2008 decision on allocating spectrum licences had been up to the telecoms minister, A Raja.
