The Albanian telecoms regulator has announced an auction of spectrum for mobile services in the 4G-suitable 1,800 MHz band.
Six paired blocks of 2×6 MHz spectrum in the band are on offer and the starting price for the licences has been set at €3.1m (US$3.9m).
Licences last for 15 years, after which there is a renewal option, and offer nationwide coverage.
Bids are due by 2 March 2015 and they will be opened on the same day. Licences will be granted within 10 days of the winners being announced and payments made.
Licence-holders are required to start offering services using the spectrum within two months of obtaining their licences.
Albania’s four mobile network operators are Vodafone Albania, Albanian Mobile Communication (AMC), a subsidiary of Greek telco Cosmote, Albtelecom’s Eagle Mobile and Plus Communication.
