TeliaSonera has increased its stake in Uzbek mobile operator UCell to 94%, buying an additional 20% stake from Takilant Limited for SEK1,550m (E153m).
Tero Kivisaari, TeliaSonera president of business area Eurasia said: “This transaction underlines TeliaSonera’s strategy to increase ownership in core holdings.”
The Nordic company acquired a majority stake in UCell in 2007. It said that UCell has become the second largest mobile operator of the country with 4.759 million subscribers representing about 30% market share in September 2009. UCell’s net sales for the period from January to September were SEK889m (E88m).
